Hellix is a mono-linear geometrical sans-serif font family. It was designed during an internship at the Type Design and Typography Studio at UMPRUM in Prague. At that time I fell in love with Paul Renner’s first sketch of Futura and I also explored stylistic sets, so I added a lot of strict and cold alternatives (“a, g, m, n, r, t, etc.”). I enjoyed having the possibility to create tensions between circular and square shapes. You will also find less geometrically based alternatives. In Hellix, circle forms are “punched” into the vertical stems and the terminals are diagonal. In Gellix the terminals are horizontal or vertical and the circle forms are connected gracefully onto the vertical stems. In Fellix, circle forms are connected gracefully onto the vertical stems and the terminals are also diagonal. The last modification Yellix has horizontal or vertical terminals and the circle forms are punched into the stems. #ellix families is mainly inspired by Futura (1924–1932 Paul Renner), Drescher Grotesk (2002 Arno Drescher, Nicolai Gogoll), Super Grotesk (1930, Arno Drescher) and Johnston (1915 Edward Johnston).
